My goal as a horseman is to ALWAYS be willing to learn more about horses and how to BEST communicate with them. I realize that being open minded and willing to try new methods will make me better at what I do with horses.
One way I like to learn is by reading books in my spare time. I think the books on this list are all worth the time it takes to read them. How did I find these books? Well I received some as gifts, bought some on Amazon, and others I got because the book or author was mentioned in another book I read.
Far Away Horses by: Buck Brannaman A book about Buck’s life and the horses he has helped. Buck is a very interesting cowboy who I find to be inspiration in life with or without horses. Buck has that cowboy way about him where he pretty much tells it the way it is. A very good reading.
Believe by: Buck Brannaman A book about the horses Buck has helped and the people that own them. A very good reading.
Shy Boy by: Monte Roberts a brief look into the life of Monte Roberts and the time he spent with a wild mustang named Shy Boy. A good read.
Horse Smarts for the Busy Rider by: Rick Lamb Rick This is a collection of conversations from Rick’s radio show. It’s a whole bunch of one page tips and tid bits about horses.
Human to Horseman by: Rick Lamb This is the story of Rick’s journey of discovery, growth, and celebration of his life with horses over a twelve year period. I think this is a good read for anyone who has horses in their life.
The Greatest Horse Stories Ever Told: Thirty Unforgettable Horse Tales Edited by: Steven D. Price This is a good book for entertainment.
The Art of Horsemanship: by: Xenophon Xenophon is believed to be the author of the very first book about horsemanship 2300 years ago. I found this book thanks to Rick Lamb who mentioned it in his book. This book is very interesting in that how many aspects of horses he talks about that are coming out in the “Revolution in horsemanship” we are having in today’s world. This book is worth reading.
Soul of a Horse: by: Joe Camp This is a very good book about Joe’s experiences with his horses and other horse people he has known and what he has learned in his short time as a horse owner. He is a former movie writer, who’s most recent work was the new Benji movie. Benji, of course being a dog. I found Joe to be a very good writer and very insightful.
The Revolution In Horsemanship: by: Dr. Robert M. Miller and Rick Lamb This is an excellent book for anyone interested in Natural Horsemanship Training. The book is excellently written and I found it to be very good. Two very good writers working as a team. Join the revolution!
Natural Horsemanship Explained: by: Dr. Robert M. Miller This is a very good book. Dr. Miller is a very insightful and knowledgeable person and definitely a great resource of information. He deserves a lot of credit for the “revolution in horsemanship”. Thanks Dr. Miller not only are you very knowledgeable, but you are a very good writer as well.
